Kakao and Kakao Brain Merge Organizations to Accelerate AI Development

Kakao is accelerating the development of artificial intelligence (AI) services by integrating its research and development subsidiary Kakao Brain and related organizations.

On the 2nd, Kakao held a board meeting and approved the agenda to transfer the business of Kakao Brain's large-scale AI-based language models and image generation models. The business transfer and organizational integration process is expected to be completed by June.

Kakao plans to promote the normalization and popularization of AI technology. The goal is to quickly launch AI services by combining Kakao Brain's technological capabilities, which include the large-scale AI language model 'Ko-GPT', the text-based image generation model 'Karlo', and various lightweight language models, with Kakao's service strengths.

Kakao Brain employees will continue to develop lightweight language models optimized for everyday AI services, as well as advance the AI models they have deeply researched and developed so far.

Jung Shin-ah, CEO of Kakao, said, "AI has now passed the stage of technology verification and entered a period where practical application is crucial. By integrating Kakao's understanding and interpretation know-how of user experience with Kakao Brain's capabilities in language models, we will maximize synergy and present the most Kakao-like services that permeate users' daily lives."
