On the 2nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it signed a mutual cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Presidential 2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Carbon Neutral Committee), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.
This MOU was conducted as part of the 'Green Building Conference for Climate Crisis Response' hosted by the Carbon Neutral Committee and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It originated from a consensus that it is important for related ministries to timely establish policies and systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, and for local governments to actively implement them, in order to achieve the core task of 'green transformation of existing buildings' for carbon neutrality by 2050.
At the conference, directions for policies and systems to manage energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the building usage phase, as well as building performance improvement and energy transition measures such as green remodeling, were discussed.
Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "For carbon neutrality in the building sector, energy management of existing buildings and expansion of green buildings are important," adding, "As the main ministry for green buildings, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will actively promote policies related to the green transformation of new and existing buildings in cooperation with related ministries and local governments."
