Kim Dong-yeon Reaffirms Promotion of Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province... "Will Run to the Finish Line Without Wavering"

Gyeonggi Province is resuming efforts to establish the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

Gyeonggi Province plans to submit a special law for the establishment of the Northern Special Self-Governing Province as the first bill of the 22nd National Assembly, which is scheduled to convene this month, while significantly strengthening efforts to build a broad consensus among residents.

On the 1st, Governor Kim Dong-yeon held the “Public Report Meeting on the New Name for Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province” at the Gyeonggi Northern Government Complex, clearly expressing this determination.

Governor Kim introduced the term “Last Mile,” referring to the final remaining section of a marathon, saying, "Today, with the Public Report Meeting on the New Name for the Northern Special Self-Governing Province, Gyeonggi Province has entered the last mile section. I once again express my determination to run unwaveringly to the final finish line."

He continued, "Passing the name or the law for the Northern Special Self-Governing Province is ultimately a means to nurture the growth potential of northern Gyeonggi and make it a place of great international prosperity," emphasizing, "Let us tighten our shoelaces again and complete the race by achieving regulatory reform, attracting investment, and fulfilling the dreams of the youth and residents in northern Gyeonggi."

Public Report Meeting on the New Name of Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province plans to continuously hold various special lectures and briefings by directly visiting residents by region and social class to spread a broad consensus among residents regarding the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

Meanwhile, at the report meeting, “Pyeonghwanuri” was selected as the grand prize winner of the public contest for the new name of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province. Awards were also given to two excellence prize winners, “I-eum” and “Hanbaek,” and seven encouragement prize winners, totaling ten winning entries. “Pyeonghwanuri” reflects the hopes of local residents to create a peaceful and hopeful world in northern Gyeonggi.

However, Gyeonggi Province clarified that this public contest for the new name of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province was conducted to raise public interest and is not the final official name of the Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

A Gyeonggi Province official explained, "The official legal name of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province will be finalized through the formation of a separate committee and other processes at the legislative stage."

Previously, from January 18 to February 19, Gyeonggi Province held a public contest for the new name of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province. During the contest period, 4,046,762 people visited the contest website and proposed 52,435 new names, demonstrating high interest and popularity.
