Accelerating Parking Environment Improvement with Completion of 33-Space Public Parking Lot in Geumho 1-ga-dong in May
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is actively promoting the 2024 Parking Environment Improvement Project in various ways to alleviate parking difficulties and create a convenient and livable Seongdong.
The district first signed an agreement on April 22 to open the parking lots of Seongsu-dong Galleria Fore shopping mall, Seoul Forest SK V1 Tower, Muhak Elementary School, Milgak Simindang, and affiliated parking lots, sharing a total of 84 parking spaces with residents. The participating facilities realize the value of coexistence with the local community by allowing residents to use parking facilities at rates cheaper than market prices while receiving support funds for parking facility improvement construction.
In August, the number of parking spaces in the severely congested Sageun-dong area will increase by more than 140 spaces. Hanyang University plans to open a total of 37 parking spaces to local residents after completing the construction of the 7th dormitory, and the Salgoti public parking lot will significantly expand the number of parking spaces from the existing 102 to over 200 through improvement construction.
Additionally, since the beginning of the year, Seongdong-gu has explored every corner of the district and discovered 142 hidden parking spaces in Seongsu-dong, Yongdap-dong, Geumho-dong, and Eungbong-dong. In April, new sections were created within public parking lots and additional resident-priority parking spaces were allocated to residents.
The Geumho 1-ga-dong public parking lot, scheduled for completion in May, will expand a total of 33 parking spaces. Reflecting residents' opinions gathered through a residents' briefing session, rapid electric vehicle charging facilities will also be installed.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “We plan to actively expand the Seongdong-gu parking sharing project in the future. This parking sharing system will serve as a good example of pursuing sustainable development in cooperation with the local community,” and added, “We will make further efforts to contribute to the coexistence and development of the local community and provide convenience to residents.”
