Opening of Lifestyle Trend Spaces for the MZ Generation
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that on the 29th, it held the opening ceremony of the Mangdeok Port Food Zone ‘Byeol Heneun Gang’ at 185 Mangdeok-gil, Jinwol-myeon (Mangdeok Port area), which will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing Gwangyang’s representative young and trendy food and cultural street.
About 60 people attended the opening ceremony to celebrate the first step of the Mangdeok Port Food Zone, including Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang, members of the Gwangyang City Council, heads of related organizations and groups, and local residents. The ceremony proceeded with a progress report, ribbon-cutting, and a tour of the food zone.
The ‘Mangdeok Port Food Zone’ was established by Gwangyang City on a land area of 454㎡ (137 pyeong), building area of 89.1㎡ (27 pyeong), and total floor area of 157㎡ (48 pyeong), with two floors above ground. It opened through a public recruitment of operators for lease management.
The Mangdeok Port Food Zone ‘Byeol Heneun Gang’ sells various snacks made with Gwangyang’s agricultural and specialty products such as maesil (plum) ice cream, Gwangyang mugwort fish-shaped bread, and bulgogi bread, as well as beverages like handcrafted syrup ade and coffee. In addition, excellent Gwangyang agricultural and specialty products such as gimbugak (seaweed crackers) and maesil products are also sold.
‘Byeol Heneun Gang’ operates year-round from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The creation of the Mangdeok Port Food Zone is expected to provide a resting space where tourists visiting Baedo Island Garden, Yun Dong-ju’s preserved house, and Byeol Heneun Bridge can enjoy and heal while admiring the Seomjin River, and to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by increasing visits from MZ generation tourists.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, “We established the ‘Mangdeok Port Food Zone’ aiming to create a trendy consumption space that responds to the new lifestyle of the MZ generation. We also expect that the selected lease operators, who are young entrepreneurs, will continuously develop recipes with young sensibility and provide various foods, which will help activate the local economy and tourism.”
