Large supermarkets are launching massive discount events in May, the month of family. Emart announced on the 1st that it will continue its 'Price Shock' declaration in May. The three main food categories for May's Price Shock are 'Vegetables - Deli - Seafood.' The May Price Shock runs from the 3rd to the 30th, featuring ‘Lettuce at 990 won - Three types of Jung-hwa Banjeom dishes - Hairtail fish in the 3,000 won range’ as the main items. First, ‘Red leaf lettuce and crunchy lettuce’ are offered at 990 won per 200g pack. May sees increased demand for wrap vegetables as barbecue meat consumption rises due to camping and water activities. In fact, looking at livestock sales from April to May last year, camping foods such as beef, imported meat, and marinated meat recorded about 10% higher sales compared to February to March 2023. Along with lettuce, five types of wrap vegetables (each 100g)?wrap kale, wrap cabbage, fresh vegetables, red mustard, and vitamin greens?are also sold at 990 won for a month.
In the deli category, ‘Jajangmyeon, Jung-hwa Japchae rice, and Jung-hwa Bibimbap’?three types?are sold at 3,480 won each. In seafood, Jeju silver hairtail (large, thawed) is sold at 3,280 won per fish.
Additionally, 40 essential processed foods and daily necessities for the whole family will be sold at the lowest prices throughout the month.
Lotte Mart 'Gukrak Deal'... 50% Discount on Korean Beef and Pork
Lotte Mart is holding the ‘Gukrak Deal’ event for eight days from the 1st to the 8th. This event offers major food items at the lowest prices of the year. First, all 1st-grade Korean beef products are sold at up to 50% off when paying with the event card. Especially, the ‘1st-grade Korean beef sirloin (100g, refrigerated),’ most commonly used for barbecue parties, is available at the lowest price of 4,990 won when paying with the event card until the 6th. This product is priced as the lowest in the industry, and Lotte Mart has prepared a total of 110 tons of Korean beef for this event, including about 60 tons of sirloin. For pork, targeting customers going on holiday outings, ‘Canadian pork belly and neck (100g, refrigerated)’ will be sold at half price to L.Point members from the 4th to the 6th for three days.
Additionally, on the 2nd, Duck Day, ‘Smoked duck slices 3 types (500g, refrigerated)’ will be sold at 8,990 won each with a 6,000 won discount when paying with the event card for L.Point members, and ‘Antibiotic-free duck slices (500g, refrigerated)’ will be sold at 40% off. ‘Seasoned Korean beef bulgogi (800g, pack)’ and ‘US braised short ribs (100g, refrigerated)’ are offered at half price compared to usual, at 17,950 won and 2,490 won respectively.
Also, for all 47 types of frankfurters, from the 4th to the 6th, a 50% discount per item is provided when purchasing two or more with the event card. The ‘Binggrae banana-flavored planned 3-pack,’ a good dessert drink for children, is offered at about 10% off at 7,280 won each at the lowest price. The popular seafood item, Russian snow crab (100g), is sold at the lowest price of the year, 2,995 won, when paying with the event card.
Besides the Gukrak Deal, various fresh, processed foods and daily necessities are also sold at reasonable prices to stabilize prices.
Homeplus: Watermelon 4,000 won Discount & 50% Off Korean Beef Sirloin
Homeplus is holding the ‘Super Special 5-Day Market’ event with even stronger discounts than ever until the 8th. First, during the ‘Super Special Homeplus 5-Day Market’ held until the 5th, popular food items are offered at unprecedented discount prices. ‘11 Brix sweetness-selected watermelon (4kg/5kg)’ is sold at 18,990 won and 19,990 won respectively with a 4,000 won discount when paying with the event card. ‘Fresh onions’ are sold at 3,490 won per net, and ‘Pulmuone organic bean sprouts’ and ‘Ourhome chewy and delicious Busan fish cake’ are sold at 990 won each. In celebration of Children’s Day, until the 8th, customers who purchase children’s toys worth 60,000 or 100,000 won or more with the event card will receive gift certificates worth 10,000 or 20,000 won respectively. From the 1st to the 6th, customers who spend 70,000 won or more at mall children’s clothing brands will receive a 5,000 won gift certificate. Also, for customers preparing family gatherings in the month of family, all wine products purchased for 100,000 won or more with the event card until the 6th will receive an immediate 20,000 won discount.
