Hwaseong-si "Doing Our Best to Secure National and Provincial Funds Amid Difficult Financial Conditions"

'National and Provincial Fund Securing TF Progress Meeting' Held

Amid growing concerns over tax revenue shortages due to sluggish economic performance this year, frontline local governments are putting all their efforts into securing national and provincial funds.

On the 29th, Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province held the '2025 National and Provincial Fund Securing Task Force (TF) Promotion Report Meeting' at the city hall situation room. The TF, led by the Director of the Finance Bureau, is composed of a total of 19 departments including the External Cooperation Office, Corporate Policy Division, and Railway Strategy Division.

The report meeting was organized to review the current progress and explore future response plans with the goal of securing 1.0737 trillion KRW in national and provincial funds for 37 projects, including those linked to the central government and Gyeonggi Province, as well as new project discoveries.

The city plans to establish systematic response strategies and make every effort to proactively secure national and provincial funds, especially for major projects such as ▲ the Sinansan Line double-track railway project (577.6 billion KRW) ▲ the Galcheon~Gasu national road construction project (16.3 billion KRW) ▲ and the West Coast Golden Coastal Road development project (2.5 billion KRW).

Hwaseong City's focus on securing national and provincial funds appears closely related to the recent financial situation. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, national tax revenue in the first quarter of this year was 87.1 trillion KRW, a decrease of 24 trillion KRW compared to the same period last year. This is the largest decline ever recorded for a first quarter. In particular, major semiconductor hub cities in the southern metropolitan area are reported to have experienced significant tax revenue decreases due to the semiconductor market downturn.

Lee Taek-gu, Director of Hwaseong City's Finance Bureau, said, "Securing national and provincial funds is essential to meet the administrative demands of one million Hwaseong citizens amid difficult financial conditions," adding, "We will strive to systematically secure these funds through cooperation with departments and related organizations."
