Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) is expanding the ‘Multi-Child Happiness’ discount rate for KTX passengers.

KORAIL announced on the 30th that starting from the 30th of next month, families with three or more children will be able to use the KTX at half price as the ‘Multi-Child Happiness’ discount rate is increased to 50%.

Previously, the Multi-Child Happiness discount applied to KORAIL Membership members with two or more children under the age of 25, offering a 30% discount on adult fares when at least three family members (including one adult) used the KTX together.

The key change from next month is increasing the adult fare discount to 50% for families with three children. From the 30th of next month, when at least three family members of a member family with three or more children under 25 use the KTX, they only need to pay half of the adult fare.

KORAIL expects that with the expansion of the multi-child discount benefits, an additional 103,000 KORAIL Membership members with three or more children will receive discount benefits.

Last year, about 113,000 people used the multi-child discount system, an increase of about 15,000 (15.3%) from approximately 98,000 in 2022. KORAIL explained that with the expansion of the discount system this year and the increase in eligible users, a total of about 140,000 people are expected to benefit annually.

To receive the multi-child discount, family information must be verified on the KORAIL website or ‘Government24’. Multi-child discount tickets can be purchased from one month to 20 minutes before the train departure via the mobile app ‘KORAIL Talk’, the website, or station ticket counters.

The trains eligible for the discount are determined based on the boarding rate of each train. For more details, please check the announcements on the website or KORAIL Talk.

Han Moon-hee, President of KORAIL, said, “By increasing practical benefits such as discounts for multi-child families, support for pregnant women using trains, and expanding the criteria for accompanying infants, we will contribute to overcoming the low birthrate crisis facing our society and fulfill our social responsibility as a public corporation.”
