Concerns Over Waterborne and Foodborne Infectious Disease Outbreaks
Must Follow Prevention Rules to Block Infectious Disease Transmission
Ulsan City is entering an emergency quarantine system operation in preparation for the hot and humid summer season.
On the 30th, Ulsan City announced that it will operate the "2024 Health Institution Summer Emergency Quarantine System" for five months from May 1 to September 30 to prevent and manage waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases.
Waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases occur throughout the year, but during the summer, the high temperature and humidity create an environment conducive to pathogen growth, requiring prevention and management of infectious diseases.
Ulsan City is establishing an emergency quarantine system together with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (including the Regional Disease Response Center), district health centers, and medical institutions, maintaining a 24-hour communication system to prepare for outbreaks of waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases and groups of diarrhea patients.
In addition, in May, emergency response inspection training will be conducted for five district health centers to enhance the emergency quarantine system response capabilities and to check the establishment of emergency contact networks and communication systems.
An official from Ulsan City said, "To ensure smooth operation of the emergency quarantine system, we will promote reporting procedures to medical institutions in advance to inform citizens," and added, "We ask everyone to follow personal hygiene rules such as handwashing and cough etiquette."
