Gyeonggi-do Character 'Bonggong-i' Merchandise Sales Reach 19 Million Won in Just 10 Days

Gyeonggi Province character goods ‘Bonggong-i’ recorded sales of 19 million KRW within ten days of market release. In particular, since the products are produced by self-sufficiency institutions, it is evaluated to have greatly helped the revitalization of the self-sufficiency industry and market development.

Since the 16th, Gyeonggi Province, together with the Suwon Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, set up an offline sales space on the first floor of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building located in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City, and conducted sales of Bonggong-i products. Following the sold-out streak at the first online store launch last September, the offline store also sold 3,220 items in the first ten days after opening, achieving sales of 19 million KRW.

Bonggong-i products were made in a total of 18 types, including ▲character cushions ▲stress balls ▲acrylic keyring dolls ▲mugs ▲glass cups ▲round pin badges. Among them, the most popular product was the embroidered ‘character cushion’ featuring Bonggong-i’s face, with a total of 492 units sold.

Gyeonggi Province plans to continuously expand the product lineup reflecting the demands of residents. In addition, it will develop user-centered products that can attract broad interest and sympathy, such as eco-friendly products and daily necessities.

Meanwhile, in August last year, Gyeonggi Province signed a ‘Bonggong-i Intellectual Property (IP) Free Provision Agreement’ with three self-sufficiency business institutions for vulnerable groups: Gyeonggi Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center, Gyeonggi Senior Employment Support Center, and Gyeonggi Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities Association.

Bonggong-i is the provincial government character of Gyeonggi Province, named by vertically arranging the consonants of the core values of the 8th elected administration, ‘change’ and ‘opportunity’: ‘bieup (ㅂ) + hieut (ㅎ)’ and ‘giyeok (ㄱ) + hieut (ㅎ)’. It also contains the dictionary meaning of Bonggong (奉公), which means to serve the country and society diligently while working in public service.
