Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is attracting attention by operating a ‘One-Day On-Site Communication Office’ to find answers together with citizens on-site for citizen suggestions and complaints that are difficult to resolve or face challenges.
Gwangsan-gu informs citizens who submitted proposals and suggestions through the ‘Visiting Listening Mayor’s Office’ and ‘Direct Text Service to the Mayor’ about the department’s review, processing process, and results.
Among these, some issues that require a huge budget or are difficult to implement quickly due to insufficient laws or procedures, or need to be resolved in the long term, continue to receive complaints even after the processing results have been communicated.
The One-Day On-Site Communication Office aims to carefully inspect the site with citizens to find alternatives together and provide detailed information and explanations to gain understanding for suggestions that are difficult to handle immediately.
For complaints and suggestions that have been continuously and repeatedly received, Gwangsan-gu’s Open Civil Complaints Office, the responsible departments, and local officials visit the site with citizens, listen to their opinions, engage in Q&A, and seek the best solutions.
Since March, Gwangsan-gu has operated the One-Day On-Site Communication Office regarding a total of seven suggestions related to traffic facilities, pedestrian environment, parking difficulties, and more, finding new alternatives and presenting points of agreement through mutual understanding and empathy. In this process, the majority of citizens who made suggestions cleared up misunderstandings such as “No matter how much we talk, they don’t listen” and “The administration is passive.” After operating the On-Site Communication Office, related complaints and suggestions decreased, resulting in a reduction of departmental workload.
Gwangsan-gu plans to actively operate the One-Day On-Site Communication Office for complaints and suggestions that continue to face difficulties in resolution. A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “We will listen carefully to even the smallest inconveniences and voices of citizens and strive to find the best solutions,” adding, “We will further strengthen listening and communication administration so that citizens can trust and be satisfied.”
