On the 28th (local time), at the final 3rd round of the PGA Champions Mitsubishi Electric Classic (total prize money $2 million) held at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia, USA (par 72, 7,179 yards), he shot 2-under 70 to tie for 4th place (9-under 207). This was his best personal performance this year, surpassing his tied 5th place at the Hog Classic Newport Beach in March, earning $35,000 (about 48 million KRW).
In the front nine, he threatened the leaders with ‘stepping stone birdies’ on holes 4 and 6 but faltered with a bogey on the 9th hole (par 4). On the back nine, after a birdie on the 12th hole and a bogey on the 14th hole (both par 4), he secured a valuable birdie on the final 18th hole (par 5) to improve his position. His bunker save rate was 100%, and his scrambling ability, recording par or better in crisis situations when missing the green, stood out at 66.67%. Choi Kyung-ju has earned one victory on the PGA Champions Tour for players aged 50 and over. He has shown consistent performance by making the cut 70 times out of 71 appearances.
Stephan Ames (Canada) fired a 5-under round with two eagles and three birdies (two bogeys). He won by 4 strokes (14-under 202), securing his second victory of the season and eighth overall. The winner’s prize was $300,000 (about 410 million KRW). Paul Broadhurst (England), who led the previous day, finished even par and dropped to a tie for 2nd place (10-under 206). Yang Yong-eun finished tied for 13th (5-under 211), and Wi Chang-su ended the tournament tied for 35th (even par 216).
