Recruitment from April 29, Winner Provided Opportunity to Validate Medical Data Solution at UCLA
2023 Winning Team MedicalAI to Proceed with Steps for Entry into US and Global Markets
UNIST (President Yong-Hoon Lee) Smart Healthcare Center and UCLA Smart Health Center are jointly hosting the 2nd ‘Digital Healthcare Challenge by UNIST X UCLA Center for SMART Health’ and will begin recruiting participants from April 29.
Held for the second time following last year, the ‘Digital Healthcare Challenge’ is open to all companies, laboratories, and individuals based in Korea who have developed and validated digital solutions based on Korean medical data.
Digital solutions refer to in silico medical devices developed using artificial intelligence and data science that provide patient-specific predictions for disease diagnosis, prognosis, treatment response, screening, and more.
The winner (team) of the competition will have the opportunity to validate their submitted solution using data from UCLA Medical Center, ranked 12th worldwide by Newsweek and one of the top medical institutions.
Last year, Medical AI (CEOs Junmyung Kwon and Heungseok Kim) won the competition with their ECG-based early heart failure detection program ‘AiTiALVSD’ (Korean name: EtiALVSD). Medical AI successfully completed solution validation based on UCLA Medical Center patient data just three months after winning. They are currently preparing for official clinical trials and certification procedures for entry into the US market in collaboration with UCLA Medical Center.
Applications will be accepted from April 29 to June 30, and applicants must submit an online application form according to the prescribed format. The application should describe the solution’s functional expertise, distinctiveness, and contribution to improving patient health without disclosing specific algorithms.
For more detailed information and application methods, please visit the Digital Healthcare Challenge website or contact via phone or email.
From July to September, participants (teams) will be evaluated by experts from UNIST and UCLA Smart Health Center based on their submitted applications. Evaluation criteria include patient health improvement, impact on the healthcare market, product readiness, and applicability to UCLA medical data.
The final winners (teams) will be given the opportunity from October to January of the following year to further tune and validate their solutions using UCLA medical data in collaboration with the UNIST-UCLA Smart Health Center.
This project is promoted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT’s international cooperation program and LG Uplus.
