First Special School and Integrated Elementary-Middle School Established on Yeongjongdo, Incheon... Approved by Ministry of Education

For the first time in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, a special school and an integrated elementary and middle school will be newly established, respectively.

The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 28th that the Ministry of Education's Central Investment Review recently conditionally approved the establishment projects of Yeongjong School, a special school, and Midan Elementary and Middle School.

The Central Investment Review Committee judged that the establishment of these schools was necessary because there is no special school in the Yeongjong area and to improve commuting conditions for students influx due to apartment complex development within Midan City.

Yeongjong School will open in September 2027 with a total of 35 classes, including 3 kindergarten classes, 14 elementary classes, 7 middle school classes, 7 high school classes, and 4 specialized courses. Midan Elementary and Middle School, to be built in the Midan City development zone, will open in March 2028 with a total of 49 classes and will operate as the first integrated elementary and middle school on Yeongjongdo.

The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education plans to prepare a plan for operating community open facilities within Yeongjong School and a specialization plan for the special school, while also coordinating with related organizations such as Incheon Urban Corporation and Jung-gu Office to implement safety measures for commuting to Midan Elementary and Middle School.

An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "The establishment of a special school has been a long-standing wish of residents, to the extent that there was difficulty due to the lack of land for a special school from the planning stage of Yeongjong Sky City development," and added, "We will communicate with local residents and prepare without any setbacks until the school opens."
