Attorney: "Her Dream of Reclaiming Life Has Come True"
Settlement Includes $2 Million Payment to Father's Side
American pop star Britney Spears (42) has been freed from the legal dispute surrounding her father James Spears' (72) conservatorship role.
On the 27th (local time), according to local media, Spears reached a settlement in the 2 years and 5 months of litigation over attorney fees related to her father and previous lawsuits, completely ending all legal disputes over her father's 14-year conservatorship role.
The specific terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, but it is known that Spears agreed to pay $2 million (approximately 2.758 billion KRW) to her father's side for legal fees.
James Spears' attorney told People in an interview, "The settlement is confidential, so we cannot disclose specific details."
He added that James Spears loved his daughter Britney Spears very much and that everything he had done so far was "to protect and support his daughter," expressing regret over the prolonged legal dispute.

On the other hand, Britney Spears' attorney stated, "The conservatorship ended in November 2021, but her desire for freedom has now truly been fulfilled," adding, "As she wished, she no longer needs to attend or be involved in court regarding this matter."
Spears faced scandals in 2008 due to drug addiction and other issues, which led to her father Jamie being appointed as her legal conservator, overseeing not only Spears' assets but also her medical and tax matters.
However, in June 2021, Spears filed a lawsuit demanding the removal of her father's conservatorship, stating, "I am not a slave and want to take back my life," and revealed in court that her father controlled her life, forcibly inserted contraceptive devices, and forced her to take psychiatric medications.
In response, the Los Angeles (LA) court suspended her father's conservatorship in September 2021 and two months later made the final decision to terminate the conservatorship over Spears.
Legally, Spears was able to decide her life and exercise property rights without conservatorship interference, but legal disputes over attorney fees continued even after the conservatorship ended. Spears has now reached a settlement with her father, ending all legal disputes.
