Imported Cars Cost 60,000 Won More Than Domestic Cars
A survey revealed that domestic drivers spend an average of 226,506 KRW per month on vehicle maintenance.
Mobility platform 'Chabot Mobility' released the results of a survey on 'driver vehicle management behavior' conducted with 167 users of the Chabot application.
When asked whether they record driving distance or maintain a vehicle logbook for vehicle management, 79.8% responded that they do so regularly or irregularly. Used car owners (60%) had a higher habit of regularly recording driving data after driving compared to new car owners (37.7%). Drivers who own older vehicles consistently recorded driving distance or maintained a logbook, showing greater attention to vehicle management.
The most common vehicle inspection cycle was "checking after a certain driving distance," with 50.6% of respondents selecting this. This was followed by △only when abnormal signs appear in the vehicle (18.7%) △only when they remember without a fixed cycle (18.7%) △only during long-distance driving (7.8%) △always before and after driving (4.2%).
The average monthly vehicle maintenance cost spent by drivers was 226,506 KRW. When asked about monthly average vehicle management expenses such as consumable replacement, car washing, and refueling, 50.6% of drivers answered that they spend between 100,000 KRW and less than 300,000 KRW per month. This was followed by △less than 100,000 KRW (27.1%) △300,000 KRW to less than 500,000 KRW (19.3%) △500,000 KRW to less than 800,000 KRW (2.4%) △800,000 KRW to less than 1,000,000 KRW (0.6%).
The age group spending the most on vehicle maintenance was those in their 30s, with an average monthly expense of 244,737 KRW. The highest proportion of drivers spending over 500,000 KRW monthly on maintenance was those aged 60 and above (7.4%). By vehicle type, imported cars cost an average of 269,792 KRW per month, which is about 60,000 KRW more than domestic cars (208,898 KRW).
The top priority item that drivers always check during vehicle inspections was "engine oil and engine oil filter (88.7%)." This was followed by △tire air pressure and wear status (75%) △brake pads, discs, and other brake-related components (60.1%) as essential inspection items.
A Chabot official analyzed, "As driving experience increases, drivers recognize the importance of vehicle management and develop habits such as regularly inspecting their vehicles or recording driving data."
