‘Seocho Chamber Music Festival’ Classical Grand Concert Kicks Off This Month

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is hosting the sweet and high-quality classical relay concert "2024 Seocho Chamber Music Festival," featuring 70 talented young artist teams, until November this year.

The "Seocho Chamber Music Festival" is a project that provides performance opportunities for young artists and free access to high-quality music appreciation for residents, based on the rich musical infrastructure within Seocho-gu, the first music culture district designated nationwide.

On the 26th, the first performance by the woodwind quintet "Woody Ensemble," consisting of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn, was held at the Rode Art Center Chamber Hall. From May to November this year, beautiful classical concerts will be presented to audiences at 11 small venues within Seocho-gu.

Additionally, during the vacation period in July, the "University Chamber Music Festival," involving 11 university student teams, will be held to provide students with opportunities for growth through challenges and experiences. Customized performance planning lectures and masterclasses are also prepared for skill development. In December, outstanding teams participating in the "2024 Seocho Chamber Music Festival" will be selected to hold a year-end concert.

Since its inception in 2019, the Seocho Chamber Music Festival is now in its 6th edition, having held a total of 310 performances so far. This year, 70 young artists will participate, showcasing high-quality classical music performances.

The Chamber Music Festival has produced teams that have grown into world-class artists by winning awards at various international competitions. The "Arete Quartet," which participated in 2020, swept prestigious awards such as ▲1st place in the string quartet category at the 2021 Prague Spring International Music Competition, the first Korean to do so ▲Special Prize at the 2022 ARD International Competition ▲Winner of the 2023 Mozart International Competition.

The "Risus Quartet," also participating in the same year, grew into outstanding artists by winning ▲1st place in the senior string category and the overall grand prize at the 48th Fishoff Chamber Music Competition in the U.S. in 2021, the first Koreans to achieve this.
