Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, attended the 'Red Road R1~R2 Infrastructure Completion Ceremony' held at the Hongdae Red Road R1 Travel Stage on the afternoon of the 27th.
The 'Red Road R1~R2 Infrastructure Improvement Project' is one of the pledged projects presented at the 'Policy Dialogue with the Mayor' held in August 2022. The project was carried out to renovate Red Road R1~R2 (a pedestrian-friendly street), the central area of the Hongdae tourist special zone, to enhance the safety and convenience of tourists and revitalize the commercial district.
The completion ceremony was energetically opened with a march and dance performance by the 56th Division Military Band, a solo performance of the Red Road theme song, and an opening declaration by announcer Lee Jae-yong, attended by about 400 people including local council members, merchant associations, and residents.
Following this, Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo District gave a greeting speech, presented plaques of appreciation, performed the completion ceremony performance, and enjoyed congratulatory performances by the military band and dance team CSM.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo District stated, “We improved large stone planters that obstruct pedestrian traffic and spaces that disconnect the commercial districts on both sides to promote local economic revitalization and convenience for tourists. We hope many people visit Red Road, which overflows with the scent of people, culture, and art. Mapo District will do its best to create a pleasant Hongdae Red Road 365 days a year.”
After the completion ceremony, Mayor Park Gang-su visited the Red Road Power Plant, which will open in May, and the R1 and R2 areas to inspect the facilities and street environment.
To commemorate the adoption of breaking as an official event at the 2024 Paris Olympics and to wish for the success of Korean athletes, Mapo District will hold the '2024 B-Boy World, Red Road International Street Dance Festival' over two days on April 27 and 28, across the entire Red Road R1~R6 section.
