On that day, Mayor Hong wrote on his Facebook, "Are you going to just ignore the disaster of failing to qualify for the Olympic finals for the first time in 40 years and only focus on holding onto your positions?"

Mayor Hong said, "The person called the Strengthening Committee Chairman (Jeong Hae-seong) should stop traveling abroad under the pretext of interviewing foreign coaches and take responsibility as promised by stepping down along with Chairman Chung Mong-gyu," adding, "If you continue to just sit tight and ignore the situation, you might be dragged out disgracefully. Act like a sportsman."

He also criticized the day before, when the under-23 (U-23) national football team missed the Olympic qualification ticket after a poor performance, saying, "Stop ruining Korean football and leave. All of Chung Mong-gyu's group should step down."

He emphasized that he is the owner of Daegu FC, a citizen club, saying, "As a professional football club owner, I cannot stay silent."

Earlier, when it was reported that there was a conflict between football players Lee Kang-in and Son Heung-min within the national team, Hong also posted several critical messages.
