Installation Works by 10 Domestic and International Artists and Graphic Designers
Busan Museum of Modern Art will open a museum shop in the lobby on the first floor of the museum on May 3rd and hold the museum shop project exhibition "Kung" until December 29th.
Busan Museum of Modern Art will open a museum shop on May 3rd that sells products applying the newly developed Museum Identity (M.I), exhibition-linked art products, books, and more.
Along with the opening of the museum shop, the museum will hold the museum shop project exhibition "Kung," providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate artworks not in the traditional exhibition space but in everyday consumption spaces, thereby promoting interest and participation in art through interaction with the works.
The "Kung" exhibition deeply explores the various forms and uses of the small and humble tool, the stamp, and how this tool has evolved along the flow of history and what role it plays in contemporary society.
Despite its small size, the stamp is an excellent tool for delivering powerful messages. Stamps can be engraved with various designs, images, and phrases, serving as a medium to express creative ideas.
The exhibition features a total of 10 domestic and international artists (teams) including Bird Pit, Gwak Intan, Park Sungjin, Yang Heejae, Oh Hyejin, Jo Hyojun, Jindallae & Park Woohyeok, Yeonggwang Injaesa, Giljongsangga × DDBBMM, and ABC (Artists' Books Cooperative). Each artist embodies their individuality and creativity in the small and humble object of the stamp, demonstrating that stamps are not merely tools for imprinting names or signatures but powerful artistic means to convey complex emotions and ideas.
The exhibition is composed of three sections, and in addition, an experience space will be provided where visitors can directly try out the various uses of stamps.
The first section encourages understanding the importance of stamps by examining stamps used in the past and their history.
The second section, focusing on the form of the stamp itself, explores the aesthetic appeal of stamps made in various sizes and shapes.
The third section examines how stamps are utilized in contemporary art and design through their encounter with art and design, exploring them as versatile tools that open new creative possibilities.
Visitors can feel the charm of stamps through various experiences such as creating their own works using stamps in the experience space or playing games like Omok.
Fifteen special stamps, including rubber stamps and millennium stamps developed in connection with the artworks, will be available for limited purchase at the museum shop.
Kang Seungwan, director of Busan Museum of Modern Art, said, "Through this exhibition held alongside the opening of the new museum shop, we hope visitors will explore the history and meanings contained in the small tool of the stamp and experience the infinite possibilities it holds."
