Yongin City to Develop 24-Class Facility on Namgok Elementary Branch Site
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Smooth Establishment for Talent Development"

The establishment of the 'Yongin Semiconductor Meister High School (tentative name)' promoted by Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, is gaining momentum. With the approval of the Ministry of Education's central investment review, it is evaluated that the goal of opening in March 2026 has come one step closer.

According to Yongin City on the 27th, the agenda for the establishment of Yongin Semiconductor Meister High School, a pending project of the city and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, passed the Ministry of Education's central investment review on the 25th.

The Meister High School is planned to be built on the site of the Namgok Elementary School branch in Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, which was closed on March 1st. The city is promoting the establishment of a school with two departments, 24 classes, and a capacity of 384 students on a 17,990㎡ site, investing about 45.5 billion KRW. The city aims to open the Meister High School in March 2026 to ensure a smooth supply of semiconductor personnel to SK Hynix’s Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Industrial Complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, and Samsung Electronics’ Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex in Idong and Namsa-eup.

Earlier, according to the '19th Meister High School New Designation Plan' announced by the Ministry of Education on the 19th, if consent is obtained for designation as a Meister High School, a total of about 5 billion KRW in startup preparation funds and support for curriculum development and operation consulting by experts will be provided over two years.

Yongin City and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education began site scouting and public opinion gathering for the basic plan for school establishment, signed a business agreement with semiconductor industry-related companies in Yongin to support school establishment, and formed a public-private consultative body.

At the central investment review committee meeting on the day, as a condition for approval of the new Meister High School, the committee requested confirmation of the appropriateness of the school size and demand, and submission of an operation plan linked to the 'Yongin Semiconductor Specialized City' development plan. A city official explained, "The conditions presented by the committee are plans for school operation" and "They will not affect the schedule of the school establishment plan."

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "The establishment of the Meister High School for nurturing semiconductor talent will greatly contribute to the development of the semiconductor industry centered in Yongin," and added, "We will work together with the provincial office of education to ensure that the semiconductor high school, which passed the central investment review this time, continues to be designated as a Meister High School."
