A Chinese man was arrested by the police for spraying a Chinese trader's face with spray and stealing a bag containing $90,000 (123 million KRW) at the departure hall of Incheon International Airport. The police are also tracking the whereabouts of an accomplice who has already left for China.
According to Yonhap News on the 26th, the Incheon International Airport Police Unit arrested and is investigating a Chinese man in his 30s, Mr. A, on charges of robbery. Mr. A is suspected of snatching a bag from a Chinese trader, Mr. C, together with his accomplice, a Chinese man in his 30s, Mr. B, in front of the departure hall on the 3rd floor of Terminal 1 at Incheon Airport at 7:12 a.m. on the 20th. The bag contained $90,000. The victim, Mr. C, is known to have put a large amount of money in the bag as he was engaged in trading cosmetics and other products.
At the time of the crime, they sprayed the victim's face with spray at the airport and fled with the bag. In the released footage, a man approaches a passenger who is organizing luggage. The man sprays the face of the passenger, who is bowing his head, and snatches a black backpack placed in front of him before running away.
After the crime, they are known to have fled from Incheon to Gimpo International Airport by airport railroad. The accomplice, Mr. B, took a flight to Shanghai, China, from Gimpo Airport around noon on the same day. Mr. A, who took the bag of money, stayed alone in Korea and evaded the police by moving around Daejeon and Gongju in Chungnam. He was arrested by the police in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, five days after the crime. The police also arrested a Chinese acquaintance in his 50s who helped Mr. A escape by driving him around, on charges of aiding a fugitive.
The police seized $40,000 (55 million KRW) from Mr. A. During the police investigation, Mr. A claimed, "Out of the $90,000, I exchanged $50,000 and sent it to Mr. B, who went to China."
A police official said, "There is evidence that the two planned the crime, including a preliminary reconnaissance at the Incheon Airport terminal the day before the crime," and added, "The accomplice who fled to China will be tracked by requesting a red notice from Interpol."
