A Job Seeker Who Sent a Bank Account Photo Literally... The Company Fired Them Saying "Let's Just Not Work"

New Employee Sends Photo of Back Instead of Copy
Netizens Divided Over HR Team's Dismissal Notice

A story of a job seeker who was fired before their first day at a company they had passed the interview for has come to light. On the 25th, a post titled '○○, please send a photo of your bankbook and ID card' was uploaded on an online community. In the photo attached to the post, it appears that A, a junior staff member from the company's HR team, requested photos of the bankbook and ID card from the successful interviewee. The interviewee then took and sent photos of the back side of the bankbook and the ID card.

However, A informed them, "○○, let's just not work together. Sorry. Thank you for coming to the interview," effectively firing them before their first day. The request was for a photo of the side of the bankbook showing the account number for salary transfer, but the interviewee sent a photo of the back side, which seemed to cause great disappointment. Netizens' reactions to the story were mixed. One netizen commented, "You can tell a lot from one thing; it seems the junior staff filtered them out because they didn't even know such a basic thing." On the other hand, some opinions included, "If they had said it was a copy, maybe they would have understood," and "The junior staff seems a bit harsh."

Earlier, at the end of March last year, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced the results of an analysis of the ideal talent profiles disclosed on the websites of the top 100 domestic companies by sales. According to the survey results, the top 100 companies identified 'sense of responsibility' (67 companies), 'spirit of challenge' (66 companies), and 'communication and cooperation' (64 companies) as the most important values they seek in talent. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been conducting this survey every five years since it first started in 2008.

The most significant change over the five years is the increase in companies emphasizing a sense of responsibility. In 2018, responsibility was mentioned by 44% of companies, ranking fifth, but in this year's survey, 67% of companies emphasized it, making it the top priority. For example, POSCO Holdings listed as their ideal talent "someone who practices responsibility and accountability, demonstrates decisiveness in all matters, and takes initiative ahead of others," while KT highlighted 'ownership spirit.' These expressions were not included in the talent profiles of POSCO and KT in 2018.

In fact, within companies, there is a considerable view that employees' sense of responsibility has declined. In a 2020 survey conducted by the job platform Saramin targeting 392 companies, 41.6% of companies responded that "Z Generation new employees lack responsibility compared to previous generations."
