Performance Resumes with Mokpo Maritime W Show Held on the 27th
Mokpo City is renovating the Dancing Sea Fountain to attract more tourists.
Mokpo City will officially reopen the Dancing Sea Fountain, a representative nighttime tourist attraction, on the 27th with a collaborative performance of the Mokpo Marine W Show.
According to the city on the 26th, the Dancing Sea Fountain, installed in 2010, had become outdated after 13 years, making normal performances impossible due to equipment aging, lack of novelty, and insufficient unique content, prompting improvements.
As part of the tourism hub project, the city invested 8.5 billion KRW and began the function improvement project for the Dancing Sea Fountain in October 2022, with completion scheduled for the end of April.
The improvements involved dismantling the old fountain facilities, reinforcing the durability of the buoyancy body, and increasing the number of underwater pumps and moving nozzles using the latest technology to make the fountain’s dance movements smoother and more delicate.
Additionally, the height of the high fountain was increased beyond the previous level, and performance equipment such as LED lights, lasers, beam projectors, and moving lights were upgraded and newly installed to enhance grandeur and splendor.
On land, color lasers were installed to use the sea surface as a canvas for drawing pictures, and a newly introduced circular electronic display opposite the sea fountain will provide performance information of the musical fountain to tourists and citizens from any location in Peace Plaza, as well as promote Mokpo’s tourist attractions and city administration.
The Dancing Sea Fountain operates twice daily (8:00 PM and 8:30 PM) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays during spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November), and three times daily (8:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:00 PM) on Fridays and Saturdays.
During summer (June to August), performances increase to three times daily (8:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:00 PM) from Tuesday to Sunday. The fountain is closed every Monday.
A city official said, “We are pleased to resume the Dancing Sea Fountain, which was temporarily suspended for facility improvements, allowing us to continue spectacular and magnificent performances, rewarding the long wait of local merchants and citizens. We will do our best to ensure that the performances delight and move the eyes and ears of citizens and tourists.”
