Expectations for Resolving Charger Shortage Issue
Electric vehicle charger manufacturer SK Signet unveiled its new product lineup, including the 'Multi Dispenser Concept Model,' for the first time at the '37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS37)' held from the 23rd to the 26th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Known as the "Olympics of the electric vehicle field," EVS37 is the world's most prestigious electric vehicle event with a 55-year history, hosted by the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA) and the Asia Pacific Electric Vehicle Association (EVAAP), and organized by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE). Approximately 155 companies from over 40 countries set up 550 booths.
The Multi Dispenser Concept Model introduced by SK Signet at EVS37 is a system that operates by combining multiple dispensers with one power cabinet. Unlike the traditional method of connecting one dispenser to one power cabinet, the Multi Dispenser Model supports connecting up to six dispensers to a single power cabinet.
Customers can choose the optimal configuration according to their needs: ▲ one power cabinet with six dispensers ▲ one power cabinet with four dispensers ▲ or one power cabinet with one dispenser. This enhances efficiency and addresses the charger shortage issue, a major challenge in the electric vehicle market.
Additionally, the Multi Dispenser Model uses lightweight materials and a compact size to reduce weight while maintaining high power density, enabling fast and effective charging. Its slim design, with a width of less than 250 mm, is slimmer than comparable power products on the market, allowing many chargers to be installed in limited spaces, thus excelling in space efficiency.
The charger enclosure design has been optimized to reduce the time required to produce various mechanical components. SK Signet explains that the overall lead time from charger order to delivery can be shortened. The Multi Dispenser Model aims to complete development and begin mass production within the fourth quarter of this year.
At EVS37, SK Signet expanded its flagship 400 kW ultra-fast charger 'V2' lineup by introducing new mid-speed and fast chargers. The V2 can charge two vehicles simultaneously with one dispenser. With a maximum output of 400 kW from a single port, it can charge from 20% to 80% in just 15 minutes, receiving high praise from the industry at 'CES 2024' earlier this year.
The expanded lineup offers a wide range of options, from a 30 kW mid-speed product useful for locations where customers stay briefly, like supermarkets, to ultra-fast products of 50 kW, 100 kW, and 200 kW. The expanded lineup also features the 'Charger Integrated Support System (CISS),' which provides real-time charger monitoring and control, as well as wireless remote updates (OTA), increasing uptime (charger operating time) to 97% while offering enhanced security and efficiency.
Jung-ho Shin, CEO of SK Signet, said, "The Multi Dispenser Model and new product lineup unveiled at this event embody SK Signet’s innovative technology and expertise that have led the domestic and international charging infrastructure industry. Going forward, SK Signet will continue to focus on technological advancement and product development to revitalize the electric vehicle charging market and provide customers with a new charging experience."
