"Yoon Should Apologize to the Public at the Summit"
The Presidential Office proposed a "free-form meeting without prior agenda coordination or agreement" regarding the summit between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, while Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Geon-young raised his voice, saying, "That means not to do it."
On the 26th, Representative Yoon appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "In this general election, the people demanded reflection from the president and the ruling party to the extent of raising a stick, not a switch, and this is the background behind the proposal for the summit," adding, "It is the wrong attitude for the side that should reflect to say, 'Do as you please.'"
He continued, "The key to this summit must be held by the Democratic Party," and said, "The Presidential Office's 'Let's do everything' is the same as saying 'Let's not do anything at all.'"
Representative Yoon also emphasized that if the summit takes place, President Yoon must offer a public apology to the people at this meeting. He said, "The president has never apologized once in front of the people since the general election," and added, "An 'apology conveyed privately' or an apology said to have been made at a Cabinet meeting is not an apology."
Furthermore, Representative Yoon pointed out that the summit is an unfavorable environment for the opposition party leader. He said, "First of all, it is the president's home ground, and while hundreds of people from the Yongsan Presidential Office prepare for it, the Democratic Party does not have such resources," adding, "Basically, it is a tilted and unfavorable playing field for Leader Lee Jae-myung." He then advised, "If I may say one thing, it might be better to enter with the Policy Committee Chair, Chief of Staff, or spokesperson rather than a one-on-one private meeting."
