From Alleys to Policies... Proposal Changing Gwanak-gu 'Welcome'

Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) is carrying out various resident participation projects to identify local community issues and seek solutions together with residents to promote district administration development.

The district has established and operates a Resident Participatory Budget Committee, where residents participate in the budget formulation process to achieve fiscal democracy and enhance the transparency and fairness of local finances.

On the 16th, the district appointed a total of 65 members of the "11th Gwanak-gu Resident Participatory Budget Committee" who will be active this year and began its operation.

The appointed members will participate in various budget processes for two years from the date of appointment, including ▲efficient collection of residents' opinions ▲coordination, submission, and evaluation of residents' opinions and follow-up management ▲education and promotion for residents ▲holding residents' forums.

At the first regular meeting held that day, the committee discussed the operational direction of the resident participatory budget for this year, formed five subcommittees (▲Economic Administration ▲Welfare and Culture ▲Urban Future ▲Construction and Transportation ▲Youth), and had a communication session with District Mayor Park Jun-hee.

Additionally, the district is promoting various projects to activate residents' participation in district administration and actively discover good ideas to reflect them in district policies.

First, the district operates a resident participatory budget proposal project where residents can conveniently suggest ideas to solve inconveniences in daily life or local community problems at any time. This year, proposals for the resident participatory budget project will be intensively collected until May 31.

Proposed projects through the call will be reviewed by the Resident Participatory Budget Committee and the Dong Resident Participatory Budget Meetings, then deliberated by a coordination council composed of public-private members, and finally confirmed by the district council's deliberation and resolution in December.

Last year, a total of 320 projects were proposed, among which 25 projects, including ▲holding the Nakseongdae-dong Spring Flower Festival ▲maintenance of heat relief shelters ▲repair of the yellow soil path in Seonwoo Park, are scheduled to be implemented this year.

Also, to allow many residents to share their opinions at the district office, the district will hold "Resident Public Forums" divided into four zones covering all Dongs. The forums will be held over two days from the 29th to the 30th, and any Gwanak-gu resident can participate.

A district official said, "Based on communication and cooperation, we are striving to find and solve community problems together with residents according to the district administration value of creating a happy Gwanak for all," and added, "We hope residents actively propose everything from very small ideas to innovative projects for district development during the Resident Public Forums and the intensive proposal period for the resident participatory budget."
