US New Unemployment Claims Hit Lowest in Two Months

Last Week 207,000 Cases
Continued Decrease in Unemployment Benefit Claims

Last week, the number of new unemployment benefit claims in the United States recorded the lowest level in two months.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor on the 25th (local time), the number of new unemployment benefit claims for the week of April 14-20 was counted at 207,000. This was below the expert forecast of 214,000 and decreased compared to the previous week’s 212,000.

The number of new unemployment benefit claims was the lowest in two months, indicating that the U.S. labor market continues to remain strong.

The number of new unemployment benefit claims, which reflects corporate layoff trends, has been hovering around 200,000 since mid-September last year. Compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains at a record low level.

The number of continuing unemployment benefit claims, which are filed by those claiming benefits for at least two weeks, was counted at 1,781,000 for the week of April 7-13. This was a decrease of 15,000 from the previous week, indicating that more existing unemployed individuals have found new jobs.

The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) is monitoring related indicators closely, as it views an overheated labor market as a potential factor that could stimulate inflation.
