Minister of the Interior and Safety Sang-min Lee Discusses Measures Against Malicious Complaints at Dongdaemun-gu Civil Service Center on the 25th
District Mayor Pil-hyung Lee States, "We Will Firmly Respond to Malicious Complaints Such as Verbal Abuse and Assault"
Recently, as the number of public officials who have taken their own lives due to malicious civil complaints or who suffer mental and physical harm from repeated malicious complaints has been increasing in some local governments, on the 25th, Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, visited the 1st floor General Civil Service Office of Dongdaemun-gu Office (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) in Seoul.
This on-site visit was arranged to inspect the civil service office in Dongdaemun-gu, which is making special efforts to respond to malicious complaints and protect civil service officials.
To protect civil service officials, the district has implemented ▲enactment of ordinances for the protection and support of civil complaint handlers ▲designation of a dedicated department for responding to malicious complaints ▲installation of safety glass throughout the district and dong civil service offices ▲distribution of 33 portable wearable cameras ▲installation of 56 CCTVs and operation of 4 emergency bells in district and dong civil service offices ▲establishment of recording phone lines ▲and implementation of “Body & Mind Care Day” for civil service officials.
On that day, in the 5th-floor mayor’s reception room, Minister Lee Sang-min, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, and officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety listened to reports on the status of the Dongdaemun-gu General Civil Service Office, major civil complaint convenience services, and the status of protective measures for civil service officials.
Then, Minister Lee toured the 1st floor General Civil Service Office, encouraged the hard work of the civil service officials, and took time to listen to the difficulties faced on site. He also checked whether the emergency bell in the General Civil Service Office was working properly. When the emergency bell is pressed in an emergency, it connects to the 112 General Situation Room, and nearby police officers are dispatched. Confirming the prompt dispatch of the police, the schedule for the day was concluded.
Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung expressed his welcome to the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety who visited the civil complaint site, stating, “Malicious complaints cause harm not only to public officials but also to other complainants,” and added, “In cases of illegal acts such as verbal abuse or assault by malicious complainants, we plan to respond without leniency and actively protect civil service officials.”
