First Meeting After General Election... Discussion on the 22nd National Assembly Operation Plan
Lee "Urges Leading Role in Reform"
Cho "Requests Full Responsibility and Role as a Governing Party"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Cho Guk, leader of the Cho Guk Innovation Party, held a dinner meeting on the 25th. The two leaders agreed to meet frequently for active communication and to jointly promote bills and policies in the 22nd National Assembly, which will convene next month.
The Democratic Party announced through a written briefing in the afternoon that Lee and Cho held a dinner meeting for about two hours and 30 minutes at a location in Yeouido, Seoul. The meeting took place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
This was their first meeting since the April 10 general election. Kim Woo-young, the Democratic Party’s chief of staff for party affairs, and Cho Yong-woo, the Cho Guk Innovation Party’s chief of staff for party affairs, attended the meeting as aides.
The Democratic Party stated, "The two party leaders agreed to meet frequently and frankly discuss various topics regardless of agenda," adding, "Details and the order of handling joint bills and policies between the two parties will be coordinated through the channels of the two parties’ chiefs of staff."
It further added, "Lee requested the Cho Guk Innovation Party to take a leading role in reforming our society, and Cho expressed hope that the Democratic Party will fulfill its heavy responsibilities and roles as a ruling party."
Prior to the meeting, Lee told reporters, "I contacted (Cho) first," and said, "Since we have known each other well, I thought it was necessary to have various discussions, so I suggested having dinner together."
