Yeongcheon City Signs 30.5 Billion KRW 'Rural Agreement' with Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Yeongcheon City signed a Rural Agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs at the '2024 Rural Agreement Ceremony' held on the 25th at the Government Sejong Convention Center.

At this agreement ceremony, 22 cities and counties nationwide that signed agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs reaffirmed their commitment to actively proceed with the rural agreement projects to be launched.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs agreed to support the national budget to ensure smooth implementation of the agreement projects included in each city and county’s rural living area revitalization plans, while the cities and counties pledged to allocate local funds without fail for the agreement projects and related projects and use them according to the project objectives.

With this rural agreement, the city will invest a total of 30.49 billion KRW over the next five years (19.21 billion KRW from the national government, 1.94 billion KRW from the provincial government, 9.21 billion KRW from the city, and 130 million KRW from others) to actively promote various support projects for expanding living SOC facilities and service delivery centered on Geumho-eup, Cheongtong-myeon, Hwasan-myeon, Hwabuk-myeon, Gogyung-myeon, Bukan-myeon, and Daechang-myeon.

Yeongcheon City established a dedicated department, the Regional Vitality Division, starting in 2022 for the rural agreement, and formed a promotion system including the Rural Agreement Committee, Administrative Council, Basic Planning Group, and Living Area Promotion Committee.

Additionally, by establishing a customized plan reflecting residents’ demands, the city was selected as a rural agreement target local government in June last year and, after three rounds of consulting and discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, finalized the agreement today.

Mayor Choi Ki-moon said, “I am very pleased to officially start the project through this agreement, and I expect it will greatly contribute to revitalizing our rural areas, creating rural communities where people want to live, and achieving balanced regional development.”
