National Intelligence Service, Busan Customs, and 8 Other Agencies Participate

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced on the 25th that it conducted a joint maritime inspection at Gamcheon Port with security-related agencies to block smuggling, illegal immigration, and to protect the port border.

This inspection was carried out with the purpose of establishing a cooperative system for rapid response by related agencies to incidents threatening port security, such as drug and illegal weapons smuggling and illegal immigration, amid recent reports of drug crackdowns at ports and on vessels.

Not only port security agencies (National Intelligence Service, Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office) and CIQ agencies but also the police and military units participated in the joint inspection, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening port border order.

The participating agencies include ▲National Intelligence Service ▲Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office ▲Busan Customs ▲Busan Immigration Office ▲Busan Coast Guard ▲Busan Saha Police Station ▲Busan Seobu Police Station ▲Army ▲Busan Port Security Corporation ▲BPA.

The agencies used BPA vessels to inspect the entire Gamcheon Port area, including the wharf quay walls, focusing on ▲current status of key protected facilities ▲locations of past security incidents ▲areas vulnerable to safety accidents.

Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, stated, “Gamcheon Port, where 10,000 vessels enter and exit annually, is a national security facility with complex functions including border control, transportation, and security, requiring a thorough security system,” and added, “To this end, we plan to conduct regular joint inspections on land and at sea to establish a close cooperative system with related agencies.”
