Changwon Special City and Pusan National University Sign Business Agreement for Changwon as a Humanities City.
The signing ceremony was attended by Jo Myung-rae, the 2nd Vice Mayor, Lee Hyo-seok, Director of the Humanities Research Institute at Pusan National University, and key officials from both institutions. The Humanities City Support Project is a program that utilizes local humanities assets to enhance the social contribution of the humanities and provides lectures and experiential activities combining humanities and culture to local residents.
This agreement was made to jointly apply for the 2024 Humanities City Support Project hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea. If selected, Changwon City and Pusan National University will invest approximately 400 million KRW over three years starting from September to promote the Humanities City Support Project.
In particular, they plan to cooperate in developing and operating joint programs for residents, such as humanities research, humanities lectures, humanities experiences, and humanities weekly events, focusing on Changwon’s humanities assets and cultural characteristics.
To this end, the Humanities Research Institute at Pusan National University will be responsible for planning and overall management of the Humanities City project, seeking to expand the base of humanities in the region and enhance citizens’ humanities sensibility. Meanwhile, the city will play a role in promoting participation in the Humanities City Support Project and providing administrative support, contributing to the spread of humanities in the local community. Through this project, the city expects to raise the pride and identity of Changwon citizens and strengthen Changwon’s humanities city brand.
Vice Mayor Jo said, “Through this agreement with Pusan National University, we have created an opportunity to realize Humanities City Changwon based on mutual trust and cooperation. This project has intrinsic value, but its applications are limitless. We will explore various ways to utilize it, including lifestyle, cultural use, and even connections with industry.”
