This world remote area silkworm moth insect exploration exhibition tells the story of exploring the giant wild mountain silkworm moths inhabiting the southern Vietnamese highlands, the silkworm moths that feed on oak trees and produce tussah silk, and the region’s unique specialty insects.
Silk is the mulberry silk from the domesticated silkworm moth (Bombyx mori) that feeds on mulberry leaves, which we are familiar with. Tussah silk is wild silk produced by wild mountain silkworm moths that feed on oak and other trees, characterized by a coarse yet soft texture. It is widely produced in Bao Loc, Vietnam.
The exhibition features 13 species of wild silkworm moths, 14 species of stag beetles, 4 species including the rhinoceros beetle, and over 100 species and 200 specimens of specialty insects such as the giant dragonfly listed in the Guinness World Records, all presented with vivid photographs from the field.
Buan Silkworm Town is located in Yuyu Village (434-20, Chambong-ro, Byeonsan-myeon), a hometown of mulberry industry and sericulture in Buan, designated as the 8th National Important Agricultural Heritage. For more information, please contact the County Office of Education and Youth.
Choi Jeong-ae, Director of the Education and Youth Department said, "We hope that the 21st remote area exploration special exhibition featuring rare silkworm moths from around the world will be a great gift for families visiting Buan."
