The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yong-sik) indicted former Deputy Director Jeon on the 25th without detention on charges of bribery and mediation under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.

According to the prosecution, from July 2015 to last month, former Deputy Director Jeon received a total of 782.08 million won from seven companies under the pretext of mediation related to complaints to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and local government permits, and is also accused of receiving and using a Genesis passenger car.

The prosecution identified that 100 million won and the passenger car were received from Jeong Ba-ul, chairman of Asia Developer and a developer in Baekhyeon-dong, as a bribe for mediation requests to a public official in charge of real estate development permits in the Sanggal district of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

In addition, former Deputy Director Jeon is also accused of accepting a bribe of 26 million won from companies participating in the Shingil hot spring development project from January to July 2017, related to his duties as a non-standing member of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, including the resolution of complaints.

Jeon served as a non-standing member of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission from 2015 to 2018, director of the Yongin City Policy Research Institute in 2020, and deputy director of the Democratic Research Institute, the think tank of the Democratic Party of Korea, in 2021.
