Operation Report by May 7, Implementation Plan by August 5

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam Province is promoting follow-up measures in accordance with the enforcement of the "Special Act on the Termination of Dog Breeding, Slaughter, and Distribution for Food Purposes" (Dog Food Termination Act).

According to the city on the 25th, all food hygiene businesses engaged in dog food purposes, such as general restaurants and instant sales manufacturing and processing businesses, must submit an operation report to the Sacheon City Health and Hygiene Division by May 7.

Furthermore, the reported businesses must also submit an implementation plan, including plans for reducing business premises, changing business, or closing, by August 5.

If the operation report and implementation plan are not submitted within the deadline, the business will be excluded from support such as business closure assistance, and may face business closure orders along with fines.

With the promulgation of the Dog Food Termination Special Act on February 6, new establishments of dog breeding farms for food, slaughterhouses, distributors, and food service businesses have been prohibited.

Additionally, from 2027, it will be prohibited to breed, propagate, or slaughter dogs for food purposes, and to distribute or sell foods cooked or processed using dogs as ingredients.

A city official stated, "We hope that no disadvantages occur by submitting the dog food-related operation report and implementation plan within the reporting deadline," and added, "Once the reports are submitted, we will verify the operational status and then provide detailed support measures."
