SK E&S is joining forces with Malaysia's largest power company to advance its energy solutions business.
On the 25th, SK E&S announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a 'Strategic Partnership for Microgrid Business' with TNBR (TNB Research), a research institute under TNB, in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The two companies will jointly build a system to integrate and manage distributed power sources such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar power. TNB is the largest state-owned power company in ASEAN and operates TNBR, an independent research institute conducting research and development (R&D) across the entire power system.
As part of TNBR's 30th anniversary celebration, this agreement aims to jointly develop solutions to support Malaysia's 'National Energy Transition Roadmap.' They also plan to collaborate on developing and commercializing business models for microgrid, BESS, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) in Malaysia and the ASEAN market.
At TNBR's 30th anniversary event, SK E&S was recognized for its achievements in the 'Joint Research on a 4.4MWh BESS-based VPP Solution' conducted with TNBR and received the Research Partner Award.
Based on its research achievements in Malaysia, SK E&S expects to enhance its technology in microgrid, BESS, and VPP and to discover diverse business opportunities in the ASEAN market, which has a strong interest in energy transition.
Yeom Chang-yeol, Head of Energy Solutions Business Support at SK E&S, said, "We expect this to serve as a catalyst for the energy solutions business not only in Malaysia but also in the ASEAN market. Through cooperation between the two companies, we will accelerate local energy transition and create a sustainable future."
