Recruitment from April 29 to May 17... Selecting 77 students total: 37 high school and 40 university students
Gangbuk-gu 2024 Scholarship Total Amount 119.6 Million KRW
Seoul Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will recruit the '2024 Gangbuk-gu Scholarship Students' from April 29 to May 17 to foster local talent and promote social welfare.
Every year, the district selects students who face academic difficulties due to financial reasons, those with outstanding academic abilities, or students who serve as role models in the community, and provides them with scholarships.
This year, a total of 77 students will be selected, including 37 high school students and 40 university students, to receive academic encouragement scholarships for living support. The total amount of the Gangbuk-gu scholarship this year is 119.6 million KRW, with scholarship amounts of 1 million KRW for high school students and 2 million KRW for university students.
Eligibility requires residents or their children who have had a registered address in Gangbuk-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date (April 22, 2024). Students who have already received scholarships from the national or local governments, schools, or private organizations are excluded.
The scholarship selection fields are divided into four categories: ▲Welfare (high school and university students) ▲Excellence (high school students) ▲Merit (high school students) ▲Gangbuk Hope (high school students).
First, the 'Welfare' category supports students from low-income households facing academic difficulties, recruiting 20 high school students and 40 university students. The 'Excellence' category selects 3 high school students with outstanding entrance or previous semester grades.
The 'Merit' category recruits 3 high school students who reside or work in Gangbuk-gu and whose parents have diligently served the community and contributed to district development. The 'Gangbuk Hope' category selects 11 high school students recommended by their school principals for special merits.
Applicants can check detailed eligibility criteria and required documents on the Gangbuk-gu website's news section and apply in person at their local community service center from April 29 to May 17. However, only one applicant per household can apply, and only for one category.
The scholarship will be paid in two installments in July and October. The district will hold a review committee to conduct a field survey of applicants, verify duplicate scholarship support and academic status, and announce the selection results in July. For further inquiries, contact the Welfare Policy Division.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "I hope the Gangbuk-gu scholarship will be an opportunity for local talents who will lead the future of Korea to leap toward their dreams," and added, "We will continue to actively support outstanding local students so they can focus on their studies and develop their talents."
