Gyeonggi Office of Education Expands Safe School Initiative

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is expanding its Safe School Initiative.


On the 24th, the Office announced that it will jointly carry out the Safe School Initiative with the Gyeonggi School Safety Mutual Aid Association, focusing on protecting educational activities from external threats, establishing school safety infrastructure, and strengthening the role of the School Safety Mutual Aid Association.


First, to strengthen the management of external visitors, the Office will expand the operation of school safety guards and pilot the introduction of an external visitor management system.


Additionally, to enable students to evacuate quickly in the event of disasters such as earthquakes, an early earthquake warning system will be installed on school premises. To create safe commuting routes, the Office will collaborate with education support offices, schools, local governments, and police stations to inspect the traffic environment of commuting routes and improve threat factors.

Furthermore, through the project to improve the separation of pedestrian and vehicle roads within schools, schools where vehicle and student pathways overlap will have pedestrian and vehicle entrances separated, and safety facilities will be enhanced by installing raised crosswalks and lane markings to create a safer school environment.


In addition, by strengthening the role of the Gyeonggi School Safety Mutual Aid Association, efforts will be made to promote teacher protection mutual aid enrollment, provide various legal services, enhance education on preventing school safety accidents, and strengthen the activities of school safety accident prevention ambassadors.


Baeyounghwan, Director of School Safety at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, said, "Ensuring student safety and protecting educational activities are the core of creating safe schools," and urged, "We ask the educational community and local society to join us in making schools even safer."
