Promotion and Appointment Report of Kang Ho-pil as New Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

President Yoon Suk-yeol received a promotion and appointment report from Kang Ho-pil, the new Deputy Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the 24th and presented him with the Samjeonggeom insignia (a flag with a cord).

On that morning at the Yongsan Presidential Office, President Yoon awarded the Samjeonggeom insignia to Deputy Chief Kang and instructed, "Maintain a firm state of readiness so that North Korea cannot dare to threaten us amid the more serious security situation than ever before."

President Yoon also extended congratulations and gratitude to Deputy Chief Kang, who was promoted to the highest military rank of General, and his spouse. It has been 16 years since a Joint Chiefs Deputy Chief was promoted to General, the last time being in 2008.

The Samjeonggeom is a sword awarded by the Commander-in-Chief, the President, to those promoted to Brigadier General. It symbolizes the unity of the Army, Navy, and Air Force in achieving the three spirits of national defense, unification, and prosperity. For promotions and appointments to Lieutenant General and above, the President personally attaches an insignia engraved with the appointment, rank, and name to the Samjeonggeom.

The ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, Chief Secretary Jeong Jin-seok, National Security Office Director Jang Ho-jin, and Deputy Director of the National Security Office In Sung-hwan, among others.
