Operation of Concentrated Periods by Village
Providing Accessibility and Convenience
The Cheongsong-gun Health and Medical Center in Gyeongbuk will offer free shingles vaccinations to residents aged 65 and older starting May 7.
Since 2020, the county has provided free shingles vaccinations to basic livelihood security recipients aged 65 and older. To reduce the economic burden on seniors caused by the high cost of vaccination and to improve vaccination rates, this year the free vaccination program has been expanded to include all residents aged 65 and older.
The free vaccination is available to residents registered in Cheongsong-gun who are 65 years old or older (born on or before December 31, 1959). Visitors must bring a valid ID or a resident registration certificate.
Seniors who have previously been vaccinated or are currently undergoing specific treatments are excluded from the program. Additionally, those who have already had shingles can receive the vaccination 6 to 12 months after recovery.
To increase vaccination rates and accessibility for residents, a focused vaccination period by village will be held from May 7 to 30. After this period, vaccinations will be available at designated medical institutions in Cheongsong-gun, as well as at the Health and Medical Center and five public health clinics located in Bunam-myeon, Hyeondong-myeon, Hyeonseo-myeon, Andeok-myeon, and Jinbo-myeon.
The designated medical institutions include Samsung Clinic, Daegu Clinic, Nokshipja Clinic, Geumsaeng Surgical Clinic, and Cheongjin Clinic, all of which can also be confirmed on the Cheongsong-gun website.
Shingles is a skin disease caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which remains dormant in nerve ganglia after a previous chickenpox infection. It occurs 8 to 10 times more frequently in those aged 65 and older compared to younger age groups and can cause severe pain and complications such as neuralgia.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We hope that providing free vaccinations to seniors aged 65 and older will reduce the economic burden caused by disease and help residents enjoy a healthy old age.”
