Donation of Repurposed Flowerpots to Vulnerable Groups... Seongdong-gu Launches Hope Flowerpot Project

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is continuing the 'Hope Flowerpot Project' this year, which repurposes discarded flowerpots.

The 'Hope Flowerpot Project' collects unused flowerpots from offices and homes, primarily in public institutions, and homeless job program participants upcycle these flowerpots to deliver them to vulnerable groups.

This project provides homeless job participants with opportunities for self-reliance and supports vulnerable groups such as single-person households and social welfare facility users by providing companion plants to promote psychological stability. Additionally, by upcycling flowerpots, it contributes to environmental protection.

This year, starting at 2 p.m. on the 26th, an event will be held to collect unused flowerpots mainly from public institutions. Participating organizations include Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong Police Station, Seongdong-Gwangjin Office of Education, Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation, and local comprehensive social welfare centers.

The flowerpots collected at the event will be upcycled by homeless job participants trained by horticulture experts, planted with companion plants, and directly delivered to vulnerable groups.

Through the Hope Flowerpot Project, approximately 700 flowerpots were donated last year, and recyclable flowerpots were selected, upcycled, and supported to about 500 vulnerable households.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I hope active flowerpot donations will be made through the special interest of our staff and public institutions in the region," adding, "I believe the Hope Flowerpot Project is a partnership project that considers both the environment and people. We will continue to support the project to help it become more active."
