Daejeon City announced that it has secured 15 billion KRW in national funding after being selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Small and Medium Business Materials Support Center project, titled the ‘Defense and Space Small and Medium Business 3D Printing Joint Manufacturing Center Construction Project.’

The city plans to establish a 3D printing materials supply base worth a total project cost of 25 billion KRW by 2027 in the Daejeon Industrial Complex and Daedeok Innopolis, in collaboration with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Hanbat National University, and Daejeon Technopark.

The 3D Printing Joint Manufacturing Center will introduce 26 advanced 3D printing machines and provide customized full-cycle technology support for companies, from discovering demand parts and design to manufacturing, evaluation, and demonstration.

Additionally, through step-by-step technical training and industry-linked practical education for company employees, the center aims to cultivate 170 specialized personnel. It will also form an industry-academia-research-government council to enable companies in the Daejeon Industrial Complex to manufacture and supply necessary demand parts to Daedeok Innopolis.

Han Seon-hee, Director of Strategic Business Promotion at Daejeon City, stated, “We expect the 3D Printing Joint Manufacturing Center to contribute to strengthening the technological competitiveness of Daejeon’s four strategic industries, including the defense and space industry, and to innovating corporate productivity.”
