On the 23rd, the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station reported that at around 5:51 p.m. that day, a report was received that a man in his 50s, Mr. A, stabbed his son in his 30s, Mr. B, with a weapon at their home in an apartment complex in Yangsan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju. Police officers from the local precinct arrived at the scene around 5:57 p.m., but Mr. A resisted arrest, and the officers subdued him by firing one shot from a Taser.

The police arrested Mr. A on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder and transported him to the Bukbu Police Station around 6:35 p.m. However, two minutes after being transported, Mr. A showed signs of respiratory distress before the investigation, and as his consciousness gradually faded, the police performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and requested an ambulance from 119. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away around 7:31 p.m. that day.

Mr. B, the son, was stabbed in the shoulder, chest, and side by the weapon wielded by Mr. A and is currently in critical condition. Considering that the victim was in a dangerous situation, the police believe there was no problem with the use of the Taser and plan to investigate the cause of Mr. A’s death.

A police official stated, "The exact cause of Mr. A’s death can only be determined after the autopsy results are out," adding, "We will keep all possibilities open, thoroughly investigate the cause of death, and accurately investigate the details of the incident."
