Equipped with Inline Skating Rink, Combination Playground, Slide Utilizing Slope, Rock Climbing Facilities
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "Playing Is Also Learning for Children... Committed to a Pleasant Environment and Advanced Education"
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has transformed the idle space at Mangwon Yusuji into a play and sports facility where children can run and play freely.
The area near Mangwon Yusuji, despite being home to two elementary schools including Donggyo Elementary School in Seoul, as well as many multi-family houses and small apartment complexes, lacked sufficient play facilities for children to enjoy regularly.
In response, last year Mapo-gu identified underutilized idle spaces within Mangwon Yusuji and began creating sports facilities for children, with construction finally completed on April 23 of this year.
The Mapo Children's Sports Center at Mangwon Yusuji (located at 198, Bangulnaero 17-gil) spans 3,312㎡ and consists of an inline skating rink and play facilities exclusively for children.
The inline skating rink has been refurbished with an upgraded track, and old pavement blocks and shade structures were replaced. Trees were planted around the play area to create a safe and comfortable environment.
Additionally, various child-only facilities such as seesaws, combination play sets, rocking play equipment, swings, adventure play sets, and wooden climbing structures were installed to cater to toddlers through children.
In particular, the slide and rock climbing facilities utilizing the slope of Mangwon Yusuji are expected to provide children with unique enjoyment.
The Mangwon Yusuji Children's Sports Center is open to all residents at any time. However, officials have requested that guardians accompany children to ensure their safety with careful attention.
At 11 a.m. on the 23rd, an opening ceremony for the Mangwon Yusuji children's sports facilities was held, celebrating the meaningful day with Mayor Park Gang-su, local parents, and about 100 children.
On that day, 7-year-old child Jo Yujin said, “I’m really happy that such a big playground has been created in our neighborhood, and now I will come here to play every day.”
Resident Jeon Soyoung from Mangwon-dong also welcomed the changes, saying, “With the fence installed and the inline skating rink’s cement floor replaced with soft urethane, children can now play more safely.”
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Playing is also a form of learning for children,” adding, “I will do my best to provide a pleasant environment and advanced education for children, thinking that each child is the future of Korea.”
