Nowon-gu Supports 160,000 KRW Per Person for Youth Study Cafe or Reading Room Vouchers

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will support the costs of study cafe or reading room usage fees to assist unemployed youth in their job search activities.

The district is promoting youth policies across various fields including housing, culture, and welfare, along with expanding job policies for youth who make up about 27% of the total population of the district.

In particular, to provide practical help to unemployed youth who feel burdened by job preparation costs, the district is continuing the support for ‘Unemployed Youth Study Cafe Usage Fee’ this year as well as last year. This is to help young people focus on enhancing their employment capabilities.

Youth who purchase study cafe or reading room usage tickets within the district can apply online through the Nowon-gu Office website, and later receive a refund in the form of Nowon Love Gift Certificates (Seoul Pay) on their mobile phone registered under their name. The support covers usage fees equivalent to 150 hours, up to a maximum of 160,000 KRW. Those who received support last year can also apply this year.

The support targets 1,000 unemployed youth aged 19 to 39 (born between 1984 and 2005) residing in Nowon-gu. Unlike last year, this year the support will be extended to include those who have completed military service, thereby expanding the eligible applicants. University (graduate) students currently enrolled or on leave, and professional soldiers are excluded.

The application period is from the 22nd of last month until November 29th, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must submit supporting documents on the Nowon-gu Office website. The required documents include ▲Resident Registration Certificate ▲Health Insurance Qualification Certificate ▲Graduation Certificate (highest education level) ▲Payment receipt for study cafe or reading room within the district, and all documents must have been issued within two weeks of the application date.

Additionally, the district has been supporting youth cultural living expenses since last year to provide emotional stability through culture and arts, and has various policies for young prospective entrepreneurs with dreams of starting a business. Besides the ‘Youth Store’ where they can practice entrepreneurship, the district also operates the ‘Youth Startup Capacity Building Coaching Class’ which provides specialized startup education by industry and startup stage.

The ‘Youth Startup Capacity Building Coaching Class’ targets youth entrepreneurs aged 19 to 39 (born between 1984 and 2005) who reside or have a business in Nowon-gu. The application period for the first half of the year’s education is from April 25 to May 22, recruiting 50 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Supporting youth so they do not give up on their dreams is the greatest investment for the future,” and added, “We will continue to implement support policies for youth until the day their efforts shine.”
