President Kwon Soon-ki "Adjusting Enrollment Increase Considering Educational Conditions"
Gyeongsang National University has finalized the medical school admission quota for the 2025 academic year at 138 students, an increase of 62 from the previous number. This represents 50% of the initially planned increase of 124 students.
On the 23rd, Gyeongsang National University held an academic affairs meeting at the Gajwa Campus and made this decision with a majority vote. Regarding this, President Kwon Soon-gi explained that this is not a reduction in the quota but an appropriate adjustment of the admission quota according to the circumstances.
President Kwon stated, "Considering the educational environment, we adjusted the initially planned increase of 124 students to about 62," and added, "Presidents of six national universities outside the metropolitan area nationwide are also reviewing plans to admit next year's students at about 50% of the total increase."
This decision follows the government's earlier policy allowing non-metropolitan national universities to freely determine the increased medical school quotas for the next academic year only. On the 19th, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said, "Considering each university's educational conditions, among the 32 universities whose medical school quotas were expanded this year, those that wish are allowed to autonomously recruit new students within the range of 50% to 100% of the increased number for the 2025 academic year only."
Gyeongsang National University plans to fully reflect the increased quota and admit 200 students for the 2026 academic year.
