Naju Jukseok District Selected for 'Rural Space Improvement Project'... 6.5 Billion KRW Invested

Naju City in Jeollanam-do has been selected as the target site for the 2024 Rural Space Maintenance Project, announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, with the ‘Bonghwang-myeon Jukseok District’ chosen.


According to the city on the 23rd, this project focuses on improving village living conditions by demolishing and relocating harmful facilities within rural villages and creating rest areas and living facilities for residents on the maintained sites.

Previously, the city achieved the accomplishment of being selected for the project for three consecutive years: Geuman Village in Noan-myeon in 2022, Oryun Village in Munpyeong-myeon last year, and this year, the Jukseok District in Bonghwang-myeon.


The target site, Jukseok District in Bonghwang-myeon, aims to ‘create a pleasant living environment through the maintenance of harmful facilities’ and ‘establish a safe educational environment and a central hub base’ by demolishing two pigsties located within a 200-meter radius of Bonghwang Elementary School.


The demolition of the pigsties and site maintenance will be carried out from this year through 2026, with a total project cost of 6.5 billion KRW, including 3.25 billion KRW in national funding.


The city plans to purchase a total area of 5,118㎡, including the two pigsties, and an additional 13,980㎡ for future village regeneration projects. They will accelerate the improvement of village living conditions through preparing separate competitive projects related to the utilization of the maintained sites.


Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “We will continuously promote the influx of population into rural areas by creating a village environment that is good to live in, good for returning farmers, and offers rest and leisure.” He added, “Through this project, we will do our best to ensure that village residents and students can lead stable daily lives in better living and educational environments.”
