Gwangju Seo-gu Council Seeks Transformation into an 'Exciting City Gwangju' through Overseas Business Trip

This trip is conducted with the purpose of injecting new vitality into the urban area by broadly attracting outstandingly designed buildings within the region and creating landmarks, in line with the policy to abolish floor restrictions promoted by the 8th term of Gwangju Metropolitan City's civil administration.

To break away from the negative image of "No-fun Gwangju" and transform into the "Exciting City Gwangju," the Seo-gu Council plans to study various cases and explore cooperation measures for the creation of leisure, tourism, and complex cultural spaces during this trip. In particular, they intend to focus on developing Seo-gu's rich history and cultural resources into representative local tourist attractions.

One of the main goals of the trip is to incorporate excellent and advanced foreign cases into the development of local cultural content. Discussions will focus on the activation of Seobitmaru Culture and Arts Center, the creation of walkable communication-themed streets, the Seochang Silver Grass Festival, Yangdong Tongmaek Festival, and Seochang Mandri Bumper Harvest Festival, all of which are unique cultural contents of the region.

Additionally, a fundamental task of the trip is to devise measures to prevent the outflow of population and consumption. By utilizing the redevelopment of Gwangcheon-dong as an opportunity to develop U-Square into the largest complex cultural space in the Honam region, plans will be explored to provide more jobs and cultural spaces for local youth.

Based on the experiences and new perspectives gained from this overseas business trip, the Seo-gu Council will do its utmost to maximize the potential of Gwangju Seo-gu and transform it into the "Exciting City Gwangju," satisfying both local residents and tourists.
