Hwaseong-si Conducts 'Visiting Senior Center Dementia Screening'

Screening Available Regardless of Age

The Dementia Safety Center in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do announced on the 23rd that it will conduct the "Visiting Senior Center Dementia Screening" project, which involves visiting all senior centers in the area to perform dementia tests.

All residents who wish to undergo early dementia screening can do so regardless of age, including the elderly. The screening is conducted in the order of Cognitive Impairment Screening Test (CIST), diagnostic test, and differential diagnosis. The cognitive screening test is a simple cognitive ability assessment that takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

The city plans to provide dementia prevention counseling and education to those who are judged to be normal based on the test results and will conduct a re-examination after two years. In particular, if cognitive decline is suspected, the center will connect individuals to the Dementia Safety Center and affiliated hospitals for diagnostic and differential tests to ensure accurate diagnosis.

For those who are finally diagnosed with dementia, a monthly support of up to 30,000 KRW for dementia treatment costs will be provided, along with the provision of care supplies and various integrated dementia management services such as educational programs for dementia patients and their families.

To this end, the Hwaseong-si Western Public Health Center will coordinate schedules with each senior center to provide visiting dementia screening services until December. Individuals can also receive tests by making a phone reservation at the dementia management office by region and then visiting.

In the second half of the year, the Hwaseong-si Dementia Safety Center plans to actively prevent dementia through proactive discovery and registration management of dementia patients by promoting projects such as "Visiting Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Center Dementia Screening" and visiting "Workplace Dementia Screening."

Shim Jeong-sik, director of the Hwaseong-si Western Public Health Center, said, "Since dementia progression can be slowed depending on the time of detection, it is important to get screened as early as possible," and added, "We will continue to develop and implement various services for the brain health of Hwaseong-si’s elderly residents."
